Abdominal Diastasis - RC7250026
Description of the case before and after
TREATMENT OF ABDOMINAL DIASTASIS
This lady complained that her belly had become very distended, bulging and deformed after her pregnancies. These changes are very common, even in athletic women who take care of their bodies. Although she didn't have any excess skin or fat, which often happens after pregnancy, she had a very marked distension and a herniated belly button, which gave her a very bulging appearance. The cause of this distension was the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles (also called diastasis) and the treatment was to suture (or plicature) these muscles, reinforcing the abdominal wall and acting as a corset, making the belly flatter. After the plication and treatment of the navel hernia, there was a small amount of excess skin, which was removed as if it were a abdominoplasty.
In addition to these abdominal changes, this lady had a bilateral capsular contracture. This change resulted from breast augmentation with prostheses that she had had before her pregnancies. The contracture altered the shape of both breasts and made them firmer, sometimes causing discomfort. The prostheses were replaced and the capsule removed.
