The indications for treating wrinkles with botulinum toxin or hyaluronic acid are:

  • Botulinum toxinThe most common type of wrinkle: recommended for expression lines, such as on the forehead, glabella (between the eyebrows) and "crow's feet" around the eyes. It is effective for patients who have marked lines due to strong muscle activity in these areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN?

Botulinum toxin is a protein that temporarily paralyses muscles. It is therefore used in various areas of medicine, such as ophthalmology (to treat strabismus) or urology (to treat bladder spasticity).

In plastic surgery, it is used to smooth out facial wrinkles, also known as "expression wrinkles".

DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN TREAT ALL WRINKLES?

No.

The treatment is only applied to so-called "expression wrinkles", i.e. those that appear during movement.

It therefore doesn't treat static wrinkles, i.e. those that are present even at rest. For these wrinkles, it is therefore necessary to combine Botulinum Toxin with other treatments such as peeling, resurfacing or hyaluronic acid.

WHICH WRINKLES CAN BE TREATED WITH BOTULINUM TOXIN?

Botulinum Toxin can be used to treat wrinkles in the frontal region ("forehead" horizontal wrinkles), as well as in the gabella (the region between the eyebrows; usually here you can see two vertical wrinkles - the "eleven" - and one or two horizontal wrinkles), periocular wrinkles ("crow's feet") or perioral wrinkles ("bar code").

DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN CREATE HABITUATION?

Botulinum toxin does not produce habituation. However, when the patient wants to stop using it, the skin will probably wrinkle again.

CAN BOTULINUM TOXIN CAUSE SIDE EFFECTS?

It's very rare. However, some people may experience "flu-like" symptoms, such as aches and pains, tiredness, weakness or headaches. However, these symptoms are usually temporary (1 or 2 days) and are often treated with paracetamol alone.

CAN BOTULINUM TOXIN BE USED TO TREAT HYPERSUDORESIS (EXCESSIVE SWEATING)?

It can be used on the armpits, hands, feet and even the face. However, with microdeposits and very superficially, so as not to paralyse the muscles of the face.

HOW MUCH DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN COST?

As far as the application of Botulinum Toxin is concerned, each case needs to be analysed in a consultation.

For reference, prices start at €400, but the final price can only be determined following a valuation.
